Facing off in their first home game of the season, the Georgia women’s hockey team pummeled the Auburn Tigers by a final score of 9-2, led by three goals each from assistant captain Morgan Alwardt and senior forward Claire Devito.

In the first period, Devito received a backhand pass from captain Hannah Knight and put it in the back of the net to start the scoring. Freshman defenseman Dana Stott put the Dawgs up 2-0 with a wrist shot that beat the Auburn goalie Kimi Sellers. Devito scored two more goals, recording a hat trick, to put the Dawgs up 4-0 by the end of the period.

In the second, Georgia and Auburn traded blows, with Georgia striking first. At the 11:19 mark, freshman forward Paige Oukes got in on the scoring, getting her own rebound off an initial right-pad save by Sellers, and putting the puck in the back of the net. Auburn finally responded a minute later with a goal courtesy of Caroline Audette, assisted by Allison Forsythe, making it 5-1.

The Tigers scored again following a Forsythe goal, assisted by Abby Lin and Paige Coté with 5:43 remaining to make it 6-2, but that was the last time Auburn would score. Oukes and Alwardt both scored their second goal of the game in the expiring seconds of the period to put the game out of reach.

With 6:17 in the third, while the Dawgs were on the power play following a hooking penalty from Auburn’s Forsythe, Alwardt recorded a hat trick, scoring on a strong wrist shot from the point on the deflection from Madison Jennings.

The Dawgs extended their series lead over the Tigers to 2-0 following the victory.

Georgia’s next game is Friday, November 1st at The ICE in Cumming, GA where they’ll host the Auburn Tigers again for a 9:00 PM puck drop.
