Last month, Georgia women’s hockey clobbered Auburn in their first home game of the season, 9-2. On Friday, they did it again--this time, 10-3. Freshman forward Paige Oukes filled up the scoring sheet, leading the team in scoring with six goals and two assists to boot and continuing to tear it up in her rookie campaign. Senior forward Claire Devito tacked on two goals, as well.
The first period was the Claire Devito and Paige Oukes show, with the duo combining for five goals. Claire Devito capped off the scoring with a goal six minutes into the first period, assisted by captain Hannah Knight. Oukes scored the next two to give the Dawgs a quick 3-0 lead halfway into the period, followed up by Devito’s second goal, assisted by Oukes at the 4:49 mark. Auburn finally got onto the board with a goal from Allison Forsythe with about two minutes remaining to make it 4-1. The Dawgs would score two more to take a commanding 6-1 lead after the first period.
Midway through the second period, Auburn captain Abby Lin potted a goal to make it 6-2 to keep the game competitive. Georgia, however, responded with three more goals in the period, first by Lindsey Todd and the other two by Oukes, essentially putting the game out of reach.
It seemed as if Georgia had used up all their offensive juice in the first two periods of the game, as they only scored one goal in the third by none other than Paige Oukes, this time on the power play and with only seven seconds left in the game, assisted by Katherine Davis and Madison Jennings. The goal brought Oukes’ points total on the season up to 18, good for third in the CHS Women’s Division.
The Dawgs improved to a 3-2 record on the season following their win on Friday. They will return to action on Friday, December 1st, at the Foundry Pavilion in Athens, GA, where they will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
